Advent – A Night that Changed the World

12/14/2017

“And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flocks by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” – Luke 2:8-11

This angel was God’s ambassador sent from heaven on a special mission: to announce the gospel to these shepherds. But notice that this Good News was and is for all people, including all of us, who are alive today, to hear. This incredible announcement of Good News has been echoing throughout the world for the last 20 centuries through missionaries and preachers and evangelists. And every time this Good News is declared. it demands a response. You can choose to believe or not believe.

Those are really the only two choices. If someone says, “I don’t really care!” or, “I’m just not interested!” then they have made
their choice. What is your choice? Christmas is approaching. It is another reminder of this Good News.

What is this Good News? For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. Jesus came into this world for one reason—to die for the sins of the world. And everyone who chooses to believe in Him shall be saved. That is what a Savior does—he saves people.

So, what is your choice? John 3:16 states, “For God so loved the world that He gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” This is the Good News. I pray you choose to believe. Merry Christmas!
